We have been slowly doing temple work for my mom's side of the family for years. Whenever we talk about them, she uses their nicknames and I have learned to recognize some of them and their relationship to me. My mom really feels like she knows them and orginally wanted all of us siblings together to do sealings. Several years ago I did an endowment for an ancestor in the Oakland Temple(I need to look up which one)and had a deep impression that she was there and wondering why it had taken us so long to do this. Well, getting together to do this just wasn't happening and we decided they have waited long enough.
Finally, yesterday we went to the temple to do sealings. The stack was pretty big and I didn't really think about how important this was to me personally. When my mom and dad kneeled down and they read off the names of my gramma and grandpa, it hit me. They will be together now. My gramma never got over grandpa. I know because I saw it. Her crying at the pizza parlor when "their song" came on. They had been sweethearts since she was 12 and she missed him terribly. And now they were together. It was truly beautiful.
After that sealing, I waited for my mom to get sealed to them. I guess Mom had never thought about that, which surprised me, and she hadn't prepared the paperwork for it. The workers were very kind to quickly help Mom set it up, while Mark and I continued the other sealings. When it was time, Dad and I got to help Mom get sealed to her parents. Emotions ran high (ok, I couldn't seem to control my tear ducts.) It was wonderful! Because of those few momments, I am now sealed to my granparents. And Big Grandpa, and Lily and Esther and all the other ancestors we did work for. It is a day I will remember forever. We really wished that Tate and Dawn had been able to share this day with us. But I hope that they are happy as I am to know that we sealed to Gramma and Grandpa. I am so grateful for the temple, for the knowledge that if our stubborn Swedish ancestors so choose, we will be together forever. What an amazing gift we have!
